The Bakery is based in a small workshop in Croydon, South London. It's a source of unusual and quirky creations made from reclaimed materials such as wood, metal and architectural salvage. The Bakery strives to make practical and usable products that have a unique style but with minimal environmental impact. A handful of creations are showcased on this site and many are available for sale or hire. Have a browse through the site and if you would like to get in touch, please do by following the link to the enquiries page. Thanks.
One man's trash is another man's treasure.
In an age where broken things are sooner replaced than repaired, and products are built to last for months, rather than years, there is a lot of waste accumulating around the world - 27million tonnes a year in the UK alone. Fortunately, the salvagers amongst us are happy to make use of this unwanted stuff, putting it to good use and saving it from landfill. This often means recycling or re-purposing old materials, goods and appliances and turning them into something new and distinctive. On this site you will find a mixture of these creations. A non-functioning kettle has been transformed into a lamp, an off-cut of oak worktop is has been carefully crafted into a draining board, and the old metal cylinder that has served no other purpose than to prop a door open, is now a minion-shaped wood burner.
